Research Unit West (Slagelse)

Research Unit West is built around a professorship with a particular focus on psychiatric psychotherapy at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen, but research is also carried out in adjacent areas, such as health promotion, communication, education, recovery, holistically oriented (body & mind) efforts, and psychopathology. 

Researching psychotherapy, we research work broadly with cross-cutting psychotherapies and narrowly with the development of precision psychotherapy for special difficulties.

In the field of psychopathology research, we assume a transdiagnostic understanding of disease phenomena by applying both neurobiological and phenomenological approaches.

Mission: To carry out clinical precision research with the development of new assessment methods, new interventions, and new research methodology.

That development and effect studies takes place in collaboration with patients and clinicians, also to ensure the possibility of later implementation.

About Research Unit West: The Research Unit for Psychotherapy & Psychopathology is housed on the 4th floor of the new Psychiatric Hospital in Slagelse.
The varied fields of research and the different stages of development and research make it necessary to use an array of research methods, both quantitative and qualitative, and to combine the different theoretical approaches to science. Much work is dedicated to develop or bringing home new research methods and new treatments, including complimentary psychotherapeutic treatments.

Methodologically, emphasis is on Single Case Experimental Design in collaboration with statistics As​soc. Professor Mariola Moeyaert, University at Albany, US, and with narrative qualitative analysis (indsæt link: …) in collaboration with Prof. Larry Davidson, Yale University, US​., but the research group also has a significant collaboration with several Danish research environments, and with a number of international experts.
